ROSS ICE SHELF TRAVERSE 1957-58

Antarctican Society members Dr. Edwin Robinson and Ed Williams, M.D. collaborated on the production of this documentary of the first extensive over-snow traverse of the Ross Ice Shelf for scientific purposes. Dr. Robinson not only participated in the scientific work but also recorded the film that appears in this video. Included in the account are the dramatic rescues of a participant from a deep crevasse and of Dr. Bert Crary from his unexpected fall from the edge of the Ross Ice Shelf into the freezing water below.
